Pest Wildlife Control
Rats, cats, rabbits, mustelids, possums and others have devestated our native wildlife. Conservation and habitat restoration projects must control these pests if they are to succeed.
Our Solutions
We have extensive field experience in the control of pest wildlife, especially introduced predators such as rats, mice, possums and mustelids. Identifying and estimating the abundance of the pests and predators is always the first requirement. Our knowledge of baits and traps makes this very straightforward.
Effective control of predators requires a well designed programme. Ground control often relies on the layout of a network of traps and bait stations. For superior accuracy we use GPS to place and relocate equipment.
Predator control without monitoring is like walking in the dark. Our regular monitoring and data analysis support our control programmes and ensure control is targeted where it's needed, saving time and money. We have programmes that have been active for more than 10 years.
In extreme circumstances, predator deterrent and exclusion fences can be built. We can tailor-make a solution depending on the circumstances of your site. However, perimeter fences must always maintain active monitoring to detect any unwelcome pest incursions.
Our Experience
Examples of our wildlife pest experience include:
- Ground based control of possum and rodent populations
- Monitoring of predator populations in coastal forests
- Design and building predator deterrent fences
- Secondary poisoning of mustelids
- Design of rodent control grids in wetlands and forests
- Layout of rodent bait stations using GPS
- Evaluation of predator populations prior to ecological restoration
- Identification of rodent species in wildlife habitats
